EC formation: Search committee to hold first meeting this afternoon

The first meeting of the six-member search committee, which was formed to reconstitute the Election Commission (EC), will be held on Sunday afternoon.

The chairman of the committee Justice Obaidul Hassan convened the meeting.

The Supreme Court administration confirmed the matter on Saturday.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at 4:30 pm at the Supreme Court Judges Lounge.

Earlier, President M Abdul Hamid formed a six-member search committee headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan, a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, to help reconstitute the next EC as the incumbent commission’s tenure will expire on February 14.

The Cabinet Division had issued a gazette notification regarding the matter yesterday.

Other committee members are: Justice SM Kuddus Zaman of High Court Division, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Mohammed Sohrab Hossain, former Election Commissioner Mohammed Sohul Hossain and Writer Professor Anwara Syed Haq.
